STONES and CEREMONY

Weekly Challenge #241
Stones and Ceremonies

I didn't think I would get to posting anything this week, as it is CRAZY busy. So it will be short. Love making stone pillars with an added name on bookmarks, and give them to people with gifts as a name tag. So that style is what came to mind for this challenge. And here you have it!
I'm hoping to add a bunch of pics to my blogpost next week. Lots of fun stuff happened this week in the Carlo calendar and more this weekend. So stay tuned and I will see you then! Not sure if I'm going to get to The Bright Owl's , Zendala Dare by Tues, but I'm gonna try! You should check out Erin's challenge, it is loads of fun!
I enjoy reading all comments that are on my blog and thank you for them! Have an SPOOKtacular weekend!!

ZENDALA OF FALL

Zendala Dare #113
with Erin
Go to The Bright Owl and download your Zendala Dare!

It's been quite the busy week,.......and yet,........I didn't get any housework done! :0/ Actually, I take that back, I got ALL of my laundry done. (And yet, if you looked in the laundry baskets in each bedroom it would be depressing, because there are already dirty clothes in each one!!! Yeeeeeks!!!!)
Anyways,...when I saw this week's template, I wasn't too sure about it. I kept going back to it and looking at it, thinking, "what am I going to do with it?" Well, once I traced it and the pencil markings were on my paper, it came to life! I tend, NOT, to use all the lines that are on the template and/or if I do, I just restructure them.
Thank you Erin for always giving us such interesting templates to play with. I really feel I'm breaking through a lot of my own personal challenges because of them!

Here is my zendala without shading and without color.

I used  my Faber Castell Gelatos to watercolor this.

When I trace Erin's template and transfer it onto my page, I always pick the largest template. The artist pad that I use is the Canson Mix Media XL. It is 7x10 inches and is 98 lb weighted paper. I really love it and the large template always fits so nice on it. But I usually have a strip of solid white to the right of my zendala. So I have been filling them up with a couple Bijou size squares. And putting a bit of inspirational words along with them. So here's what this week's space filler looked like. (I stayed with the fall theme.)

I am still learning how to use my Faber Castell Gelatos. I have never taken art classes so a lot of this mixed medium stuff,..........I'm still learning. But it's fun and I enjoy looking at my past blog posts and seeing that I am making progress. (baby steps)
Anyways, enjoy your fall weather! If your on the opposite side of this planet and you're having spring right now,..... Enjoy !!!!!
Thank you, one and all, for your uplifting comments! I will see you all next week! WE have our first Halloween party this Sunday. Stay tuned to see pics of what our theme is this year! :0)

LEAVES, LEAVES, BEAUTIFUL LEAVES

Weekly Challenge #240
"Birthday Leaves for Artoo"

"Happy 5th Birthday Artoo!!!" This passed weekend Laura, The Diva's youngest son had a 5th birthday celebration!!! It is always so nice to see her updates with her children and family, on her blog. I think with all that celebrating, though, Artoo ended up getting sick. So, lots of well wishes are going out to the birthday boy!!! Hope you feel better soon!!! :0)
As a part of Artoo's birthday fun, he and his little celebrators were playing in the leaves outside. So that inspired Laura to give us a challenge surrounding leaves. Her challenge is to use colors of fall, tangles that look like leaves, tangled leaf zia's and/or anything that is fall inspired. I just love fall, and these kind of challenges just warm my heart. The colors, the smells, the feeling in the air,........everything about fall, I LOVE!!!!
Last year I had quite a lot of fun tangling on real leaves. I think I ended up flattening and drying out about 50 leaves from last year, to work on for future projects. (It's so hard to pass up a perfect leaf that has fallen on the ground, and not pick it up.) Anyway, if you'd like take a peak at my sister blog, Call it What You Quill, HERE, you will see leaves I tangled last year.
The background is actually handmade scrapbook paper that I have had stashed away.
Here are the tools that I used for these leaves.
I just love brush pens. The black ink is from a Faber-Castell brush pen. (I forgot to add it to the pic.)
Hope all is well in everyone's neck of the woods! We've got Halloween, fast approaching! Yeeeeks!!! I think we have decided what we are going dressed as for the festivities. Easy year for me, no face painting and no making costumes. (Nice, but it doesn't help me get in the mood.) Have an awesome week and hope to see ya' all around, next week!!! :0) Hugs

ZENDALA TIME

Zendala Dare #112
with Erin

Okay, I have to admit! As much as I look forward to Monday and seeing what the Diva's Weekly Challenge is, I am now hooked to the Zendala Dares with Erin! Erin posts her new weekly challenge every Tuesday! So come on along and join in on the fun with both weekly challenges! It's amazing what the Tangling community has to share! Get inspired and 'Inspire'!!!

I tangled right on my printed copy, for this one! (It was a quick one for 'Inktober')

I like how this one turned out! I used the negative space to tangle! It took quite a bit of time because of the tangles I chose. Tangles used: 'Nzeppel' and 'Striping'

I just had to add this photo. Looks like we might actually get some fall colors, here in Southern CA!
Thank you, everyone for leaving a bit of sunshine on my blog last week! Can't wait to see what everyone has created with this awesome zendala template! Thank you Erin!! Your templates always blow me away!!:0)

MUNCHIN PLAY

Weekly Challenge #239
'Munchin Play'

This week the Diva (Laura) asked us to use 'Munchin' for our challenge. I like 'Munchin',... and it brings back memories of my CZT class. Molly Hollibough, has a Youtube video to demonstrate this fun tangle that she created. Molly has a way of creating such a zen experience whenever watching her tangle.
I don't mind the black tiles but I do tend to grab white ones or white paper more than the black. I recently told myself to start using the Renaissance and or black tiles. Well, with this week's challenge the Diva put out a suggestion to use a black tile. As she gave her confession of how she feels about the black tiles,......she gave all of us such a wealth of new info of using an art medium called gesso. (I bet youtube had so many searches for 'How to use gesso', today). Wow, I want to go out and buy some now. Thank you Laura for the great info, and being honest! :0)
Tangles used: 'Munchin' , 'Printemps' 'Tri-bee', and 'Akoya'

Thank you Laura, for always keeping us on our toes and challenged.
All of you challengers might also want to try giving a Zendala Dare a try at the Bright Owl.
Have an awesome week and we'll see you next Monday! Thank you for stopping by!

Zendala Dare #111
with Erin

Thank you Erin for such a fun challenge! I loved the template you gave us for this week! I may have to do another one with it! Halloween is always fun and I enjoy the crazy creatures that go along with it.
I just had to go with 'The Count' with this zendala.
In progression

True black n white and shades of gray!

Now that I know how to scan, this is a scanned pic and I added color!
Why don't you download Erin's template for Zendala Dare #111,
and join in on the fun!
If you are a weekly participant for this challenge, you might want to try out The Diva's, weekly challenge too.
   Hope to see you there!
I can't believe that Halloween is just around the corner. I need to ask a favor from ya' all! There are five people in my family, and I like to pick a theme for us to dress up as for Halloween. Any suggestions? I am totally stumped this year!

GHOULISH TRI-BEE

Weekly Challenge #238
UMT (Use My Tangle): Tri-Bee
by

Before I get straight to the challenge, I just wanted to show you a little bit of 'life as I know it', here at Casa deCarlo's. Back in April we bought chickies for the kids, (I mean the Easter Bunny brought chickies for the kids). So now that we're in September, we can definitely see which 'one' turned out to be rooster. (Thank goodness, it was only one!)  So we have 5 hens and one rooster. And as of this week, we are now benefiting from these little ladies. We are getting eggs! (I guess I should say, one of them is laying. One egg a day!) Beautiful brown eggs!!!!
The white ones are from the store. (I just added them in the photo shoot.)

Anybody want a rooster? We need to get rid of him now that there are eggs coming!  This is our mobile chicken coupe.
And then we had a glorious rain!!! Oh, how I wish we would get a true 'Fall' like so many other states!

This is my view when I'm washing dishes! Oh how I would love to Tangle that wall!!!!  As soon as I find out that our house is in escrow and they will be tearing it down,......I'm gonna be tangling this whole house:0)
So there is a bit of 'life as I know it'! Now on with the fun!!
Oh, how I love this new tangle by Beate Winkle, CZT. Thank you Beate for sharing it with us, and thank you Laura for choosing it for UMT! It's always exciting to see new tangles that everyone has created.
Ok, I wish I had taken a picture of the true shapes of Tri-bee, before I started turning them into Narwal.  But for step outs for Narwal, the pencil shape used, can be like that of what is used in Tri-bee. That is what inspired me to use Narwal. Turned this way, it looks a little like a wonky elephant.

I know,....... a little crazy and wild!!!!! But I tell you what, when I got started I just couldn't stop! I got so into my zen that I completely got lost!!

As I had finished the original, I kept thinking what would it look like if I colored it?  So my good friend Jean Chaney, gave me the perfect solution,.........Scan it and then print it and color the print! (now why didn't I think of that?) Thanks again, Jean :0)
I also figured that since it is October and close to Halloween, I might as well spook it up even more.
Please remember to go to the Diva's website and check out how everyone else has used Tri-Bee. Also, if you like to tangle, why not give the Zendala Dare at The Bright Owl, a try. It's lots of fun, and this weeks' challenge is getting us ready for Halloween too!
A big THANKS to all of you who visit and leave a message! Your words are always appreciated!
Ps, Please go to my page Dans Friday, for a free download coloring page. I add a new one every second Friday of every month. Download it and share it with others!!! <3
Have an awesome rest of the week!!

'L ZEN 7's'

' L zen 7's '

The story of this new tangle is pretty exciting to me! My 5 year old daughter was tangling on my downloaded template from The Bright Owl, Zendala Dare #110. As I was watching her do her deliberate little strokes and filling in the different areas, I had to stop her and ask her to repeat what she had just done. She was simply making a capital 'L' and then adding a '7' or backwards or upside down 7. Anyway, I said, "oh my, I think you might have created a new tangle!" So I played with it a while and I think I have come up with a way to make it a very versatile and fun lil' tangle. All because of my 5 year old's inspiration!
It seemed like such a simple tangle, that I thought it probably has been discovered and step outs made for it already. So I checked the famous Dictionary of Tangles, TanglePatterns, with Linda Farmer, and could not see anything like it. Then I Googled, tangle L7, and found that there is a quilting pattern already named L7.  "Bummer!" So,.... I sat and made my step outs and was visiting with my 8 year old and telling him my frustration, and 'HE', then gave me inspiration. He said, "Mom, why don't you call it 'L zen 7's'?" So there you have it! This turned out to be a family project!!! Yay,.... I just love when a plan comes together, especially when it's inspired by, love of family!!!
I think it will make a great filler for background or just filling in space from a string.

Do you see how she was drawing these lines?  What's great about this tangle is, that it is one of those that if you rotate your tile at a 180, you can still draw an L and a 7 and it works. So, crazy, fun!!!!

I'd like to hear what you think of 'L zen 7's'. I hope you like it and find it to be one of your 'go to' tangles! Enjoy your day!
